Kinsale Antenatal Classes
Designed specifically to teach you about and prepare you for labour and birth.

The Antenatal Classes  are a series of five two-hour classes teaching you about the labour and birth process.  Most women know little about labour and birth and are quite anxious and afraid about it.  Learning about how the body works in labour is very empowering.  The antenatal classes will help decrease fears and address your concerns, it will also equip you with useful tools and techniques to help you cope with labour and birth.  I aim for the class to be fun and informative, during the five week course there is lots of discussion, the opportunity to meet other couples from the area and it is taught in a relaxed and enjoyable format. The course covers the following:

• How labour works
• The hormones of labour
  
• Positions to use to help yourself in labour
  
• Breathing coping strategies for labour
  
• Various coping strategies for labour
  
• Pain medication options in labour
  
• What to expect when you are in hospital
  
• Procedures and practices when you are in the hospital
  
• Becoming a parent
  
• Coming home with baby!
• Books and DVD’s available on loan
• Each participant receives a folder with handouts pertaining to each weeks subject

Clare also offers a private antenatal class for couples who may not be able to do the group class.  The private class  consists of two sessions of two hours at a date and time that suits the individual couple.

• Cost of the  group class is €150.00 per couple.
• Cost of the private class is €200.00 per couple.
